Kafeneon is a pop-up exhibition and event space in Athens and is open for the month of March 2008. A play on the word kafeneion – a pervasive component of traditional Greek life,  where many gather to drink coffee and discuss the world around them – the space is meant to function as an updated version of this traditional café. For the month of March, Kafeneon will serve free Greek coffee to any curious guest, host weekly lectures on a wide range of topics, and present the work of local and international artists in a series of rapid-fire exhibitions. 

Hosted by the artist Paul Zografakis, Kafeneon is a project coinciding with his time in Athens as a Fulbright scholar. Having observed the contemporary art scene in the city, Kafeneon is offered as a blank slate for artists, curators, students, and anyone else to gather, discuss, and participate in a short-lived creative phenomenon.
